Imagine an online game which is so close to reality, that you can feel and touch your opponent. What sport, activity or game would you want to play?

I just called and left comments about this to my senator and representatives. If you live in Oregon, please take the time to do this. It's so important. If you don't live in Oregon, consider doing it anyway!! Thanks guys.

Spoon-billed Sandpiper in danger of extinction. [12 Oct 2007|11:28am]
[ mood | distressed ]

This story was sent to our local birding listserve. You can read a similar one, with compelling photos, at Birdlife.org also.
You know, even if they weren't such neat-looking birds, we can't let them go extinct because of our (human) impacts on the world. :( :-/ Less than 200 or 300 breeding pairs in the wild....man.

I just finished writing up this entry for hp_costuming and thought I'd share here.

So I FINally got my DH release photos off my camera (I had been lazy) and I have some great ones to share!!

My mom helped me make a Hufflepuff robe, and I must say I am thrilled with the way it turned out. it took us forever and was a lot of hard work, but very worth it! :D I have a few photos of that to share, and many of other peoples' awesome costumes!

Here's pictures from the release at Barnes and Noble that night, and some of my thoughts.

Book Release! (no Deathly Hallows spoilers)Collapse )

It was an amazing experience. I am thrilled that I have been part of this excitement. years from now we will be able to look back and say "we were there."

so I've read some HP spoilers. I do not want to, yet I find myself irresistably drawn to them and read them and it's too late. ticks me off that people ruin other people's fun on purpose. ticks me off that the New York Times posted a review (though I hear it didn't give very much of the plot away.....but tells what the Deathly Hallows are, and how many people die). JKR said this:

"I am staggered that some American newspapers have decided to publish purported spoilers in the form of reviews in complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers, particularly children, who wanted to reach Harry's final destination by themselves, in their own time. I am incredibly grateful to all those newspapers, booksellers and others who have chosen not to attempt to spoil Harry's last adventure for fans."

I edited my default icon.

I was getting tired of the toucan. This is a Blue-crowned Motmot. (same bird as in this icon I am posting with; with the funky blue tail.) I saw them in Costa Rica. when I look closely at this picture I really cannot believe I saw this. DANG. I really want to go back to Costa Rica.
man, I love birds.

ok, getting offline now. happy monday guys!

So. for those of you who don't read subject lines, this is Costa Rica Photo Update Numero Dos. :D

These span from Sat., the 29th of July (day after my birthday; I just had turned 23!) to the 30th.

There are a lot of boring city/architecture ones but also some cool ones scattered amongst them SO just skim if you like and find the good ones. :) Comments are always appreciated. :D

San Jose and travelCollapse )

PS if any of you birders would like to see my bird list let me know. I got 105 lifers, including this amazing Blue-crowned Motmot on my icon, on this trip. it's crazy! plus like 10 that were Better Look Desired/Unidentified but described, etc. :) HORRAY!

Even if you are not a birder you should so look because I think this was my best bird experience there. there's 2 (crappy) videos too!!

GREAT TINAMOU!!!!!Collapse )

like....50 pictures of birds, nature, a MAMMAL (zomg), etc. :) [17 Sep 2006|11:29pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

so today was actually a good day.
:)
I worked 12 to slow, and while we were pretty slow, at about 8pm everybody decided to come in and have a late dinner....^__^ so I got out of there at about quarter to 9. anyhow, it was good though. Josh and I got along fine, so that's good.

I woke up today at 8am and ate breakfast cuz I thought I might go to church but then I went back to bed. I felt like I was sinning and actually I had this fear that if I went back to bed, God would punish me by making me throw up later that day. (throwing up is like...one of my worst, worst fears). but I went back to bed anyway. :-/ anyhow, it's hard cuz I worked at noon so I would have had to go to the 9 o'clock service which felt early. :-/ anyhow.

anyhow, after work I went to Wal-Mart cuz I needed to buy OJ, and I also bought a cute brown long-sleeved shirt, and a pair of earrings, and of course some Honey Bunches of Oats. :D I came home and Mom and Dad and I talked for a while and then I cleaned my room and swept the bathroom floor.

erm....not a lot else to say. today was a good day. I have such an exciting life. hah.

I think I'ma post Fern Ridge photos now. :) because I can and cuz I know you guys usually like to see them. :)

Fern Ridge picsCollapse )

here are some photos I took Friday, when I went to Skinner's Butte. Julie called me cuz it was raining buckets over there and thundering and she wanted to make sure I was safe. that was sweet of you Julie. :) it was only sometimes sprinkling on top of the butte though! very strange. fall is just starting here and the colors aren't so bright yet, but you can see it start. :)

Skinner's Butte (and three Fern Ridge photos)Collapse )

okay that took me a billion years. do you guys like all my loverly new bird icons?! Horray! :D selasphorus made them.

free cupcakes if you read all that!!!! (not really but that sounds good huh...mmmm, cupcakes...)

I get these e-mails from "the petition site" like every day and there's like 5 billion important causes, but this one's opportunity ends September 27th....so.

Teshekpuk Lake in the arctic is important wildlife habitat, and the department of the interior is planning to sell it for oil and gas exploitation on September 27th.
Sign the petition to ask the Secretary of the Interior to cancel the sale of Teshekpuk Lake.

sorry for the "spam". just some of these things seem more crucial than others....

Looking at this makes me really want to go on another pelagic. the first pelagic I went on I hardly counted anything from, cuz I would see the bird they pointed out, but didn't like, care which characteristics MADE it the bird they pointed out. plus I felt very sick. WHICH I think was mostly because I didn't eat much breakfast and when people are losing their lunch over the rails it made me queasy too. my second pelagic I did get a lot of new lifers....but that was like 3 years ago and I'm jonesin for another one. :D

so yesterday was my first day back at the ol' Subway! it was good actually. HA I was so flustered for a while. I got so confused. but it's all good. :D pura vida.

tuesday I went to the coast with the "Wednesday morning" birding group. go figure, ahha. it was really great. I was so happy to be at the Oregon coast again, where it was not humid and there weren't mosquitoes and it was actually cold! heh. and I got a lifer!!! a RUFF. I saw the juv. one here wintering with Vjera yearsssssss ago but I never counted it cuz I'm weird and didn't get the best looks SO hurrah! I even got not bad pictures too.

Anyhow here are pictures. we started out at Fern Ridge in hopes of catching the Buff-breasted Sandpiper that Daniel found the night before. we didn't see it but of course it has been seen every day since AND I FREAKIN GOTTA GET OUT THERE CUZ IT'S A FREAKIN' COUNTY BIRD!!!1one

anyhow. walking through fern ridge and smelling the strange-smelling tarweed, and then the pungent aroma of mint, I was just SO happy to be back in Oregon. heart heart heart.

pretty pics: birds and sceneryCollapse )

then last night I hung out with my good friends Samuel and Liz. they have been going out for like a year and 8 months now (I asked, haha) and it was really nice to see them, since they usually live so far away (they are from town but go to school in all sorts of mystical places like England and Boston XD). we had a lovely talk and I told them all about Costa Rica. here are pictures from that!

pics of usCollapse )

I didn't think I was ever going to write about all that! I did about Liz and Sam but not about the coast trip. I'm very glad I did though; it was a great time. happy saturday guys! I will try not to get too nauseated by all the Oregon Ducks fans that come in today. mwa hah.

I just now uploaded this userpic; I hadn't used it for YEARS literally. it's a Long-tailed Jaeger. they are birds I would hope to see on a pelagic. I did see them on my 2nd pelagic, and there were so many of them, and for a while they were my favorite bird. so beautiful.
